Soon, More Chinese tourists to Hawaii with Hainan Airlines

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 31, 2009 – Hainan Airlines, China’s largest non-state owned airline, has applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation and Hawai‘i Department of Transportation to operate the first nonstop scheduled service from The People’s Republic of China to the Hawaiian Islands.  Once approved, service between Beijing, China and Honolulu, Hawai‘i will operate once a week beginning this fall, with a specific start date to be announced. Hainan plans to eventually increase the frequency of the Beijing-Honolulu service up to three flights a week as demand builds.
The new service is primarily targeted at Chinese tourists, a growing market even in the current economic downturn. Hawai‘i has always been a “dream” destination for Asians, and the new Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and China for leisure travel has spurred demand for the service.  Chinese tourists have the distinction of spending more per person per day on international travel than visitors from most other countries, which is good news for Hawai‘i’s tourism industry.
“We are excited to be able to finally bridge Hawai‘i to China and to link the two capital cities of Beijing and Honolulu,” said Joel Chusid, general manager for North America for Hainan Airlines, who noted that the company’s headquarters are located in Hainan Island, considered the ‘Hawai‘i of China.’  “We also expect that some of our travelers will use Hawai‘i as an alternative gateway for travel between China and the United States mainland, which can provide convenience and reduced travel time. Visits to Hawai‘i’s neighbor islands are also anticipated.”
“We are pleased that Hainan Airlines has filed to become the first airline to offer nonstop direct service between Hawai‘i and China,” said Governor Linda Lingle, who met with Chusid and other Hainan Airlines officials earlier this year.  “Hainan Airlines’ new service to Hawai‘i builds on our efforts to increase visitors from emerging markets and also strengthens our ongoing relationship with the China National Tourism Administration to increase two-way travel between Hawai‘i and China.”
Seats will also be available for travelers desiring to fly nonstop from Honolulu to China at competitive fares. Hainan operates an extensive network from its hub in Beijing to points throughout China.
Since the opening of its first international route in 2001, Hainan Airlines has steadily expanded its route network, opening new markets between China and abroad for the first time. Following the opening of several new routes to Europe and Russia, Hainan Airlines most recently added Beijing-Moscow and Beijing-Dubai-Luanda (Angola) a few weeks ago.
Last December, Hainan Airlines was named “Best Airline – China” by Global Traveler Magazine in their GT Awards. Earlier the carrier also gained the recognition of Skytrax, a leading global aviation research institution, which bestowed the honor of the “Best Airline in China” in the Skytrax World Airline Awards.
China Elite Focus welcomes this initiative and congratulates  Joel Chusid and Hainan Airlines for offering a new choice of exciting holidays for Chinese outbound tourists.

Acromedia Ltd. Q2 - African Supply Chain and Logistics Management - Wireless Device Distribution

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 27, 2009 – Acromedia Ltd., the third largest open market wireless device distributor has entered into an agreement with Swiss based Panalpina, to carry out logistics operations in the Sub Saharan regions of Africa. Ghana, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Nigeria, and other Sub Saharan states have seen many economic improvements in recent years. Well endowed with natural resources, Ghana has roughly twice the per capita output of the poorest countries in West Africa. Sound macro-economic management along with high prices for gold and cocoa helped sustain GDP growth in 2008.
“ The economic conditions across certain African markets are good for penetration. Despite the macroeconomic slowdown, and its serious implications throughout the region, the spirit and morale among the residents of many states remain strong. We find this encouraging. We believe in them and their eagerness to improve macroeconomic conditions inspires us. While many multinationals are retreating from Africa, we seek to build uniform positions in a spirit of solidarity.”
The macro-environment is challenging and we believe will remain so for the remainder of 2009 clearly. However, Acromedia's longer term strategy remains valid and intact, and has a tremendous opportunity to capture value with Low-cost and ultra-low-cost (ULCH) handsets and higher-end smart phones as prescribed by market indicators.
Despite the current environment, it is very clear we must continue to invest in our future growth. Invest at a slower, more appropriate pace but invest to innovate and grow. We consider our scale and distribution to be a key competitive advantage and we are responding in a tactical manner to pricing activities of our competitors.
Acromedia Ltd. has focused much of its global distribution in META, the Middle East, Turkey, Africa. Although without a more ironclad logistics partner for the African market, Acromedia's spot light has been its Izmir and Istanbul Turkey hubs where Penske manages regional distribution. The recent partnership with Panalpina will not affect Turkish distribution, but rather strengthen its African and global positions.
Turkey offers a host of barriers to entry for the most dedicated, and with Brightpoints recent withdrawal there remains a pool of possibility, if one can wade the murky waters surrounding Ankara. Turkish imports are a global question punctuated by confusion. Where others fail, Acromedia has thrived. This point could be no more clear than with its recent success in Ghana and Nigeria.
Acromedia has risen to a significant player in the global open market, an obvious position for a company dedicated to improving communication throughout young and emerging markets. Acromedia's core beliefs are carefully cloaked within its mission statement; “Your success drives us.” Honesty, Trusted, Integrity, Results Oriented.

Dec. 2008
Apple Inc.
iPhone shipments totaled 4.4 million units versus our estimate of 4.1 million units. The company indicated channel inventory was drawn down by approximately 250k units (recall 3mm channel build of inventory in the prior quarter). Research has suggested current build targets in Asia for iPhone of 3.0-3.5 million units for the Mar-09 quarter, leaving us comfortable with our 3.3 million unit assumption in the Mar-09 quarter. The pro forma revenue recognition suggests the gross margin on the unrecognized revenue from the segment increased to 61% in the quarter versus 48% in the prior quarter.
Dec. 2008
Nokia Inc.
Device shipments totaled 113.1 million in 4Q08 (versus 117.8 mm in 3Q08 and 133.5 mm in 4Q07), a 4% sequential decline and a 15% Y/Y decline in units. Challenges associated with a channel drawdown of inventory (likely to continue in 1Q09) and poor credit availability have pressured orders and visibility. The company also indicated 1Q09 shipments would likely decline at a greater than seasonal rate relative to the last several years (shipments declined 13% seq in 1Q07 and declined 14% sequentially in 1Q06).

New Web Site = New Customers for Park 720 Vehicle Storage in Cape Coral / Fort Myers Florida region.

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 22, 2009 – Park 720 Vehicle Storage in Cape Coral, Fla., kicked off its busy season with a new Web site that is attracting more visitors who are searching for a safe haven for their RVs, vehicles and boats. What sets this redesigned site apart from the competition, however, is that a growing number of visitors who drop in at http://www.Park720.com are pulling up a cyber-chair to stay, and that is translating to new customers for the Southwest Florida area business, according to Lynn Kirby.
Kirby is president of The Kirby Family Properties, which owns and operates Park 720 Vehicle Storage as well as three self-storage facilities in Cape Coral and North Fort Myers, Fl. Park 720 Vehicle Storage provides short-term, long-term and temporary storage for anything on wheels, which can range from a simple car dolly or trailer to a multi-million-dollar motor coach or motor home. In between those points, customers store boats and trailers, cars, RV’s, trucks, even classic cars and commercial vehicles.
"We know that every year, more and more people use the Internet to research products and services to save time, find information and comparison shop," Kirby said. "In order to take advantage of that trend and be of more value to customers, we decided to update the Web site, add information and make it easier to navigate."
Southwest Florida is a coastal area on the Gulf of Mexico, a vacation destination and a popular place for part-time residents to spend the winter months, Kirby explained.
"That means in addition to local customers who use Park 720 Vehicle Storage as a cost-effective convenience for boats and RVs, we have a significant number of out-of-area people looking for a vehicle storage facility," he said. "The new Web site is making it easier for them to find the information they need and easier for them to find us, too."
How does Kirby know that?
"Since the site was launched, the number of inquiries has continued to climb, and the number of rentals is the highest since the facility opened in 2003."
Steve Scott is president of Starship Internet Marketing Services in Tampa, Fl., the firm that designed and launched the new site.
"A typical Web site visitor can decide in fewer than thirty seconds whether to stay or move on," he said. "The Park 720 site invites them to stay. On the first page they have access to all the information they need, and the site is attractive to look at."
This year, the economy has changed the way some people are using Park 720 Vehicle Storage and the Web site, which includes a place for people to ask for things like rate quotes or to request reservation information online.
"In previous years the people who spend the winter months in Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Naples, and other Southwest Florida areas would take their motor homes and RVs on overnight trips or spend a few days in a resort area," Kirby said. "This year it’s more economical to store the gas-guzzlers here, drive their cars and take advantage of the low rates at motels and resorts."
The second economy-driven change is the number of commercial vehicles at Park 720. Businesses are under intense pressure to slash overhead, and some have been able to reduce the amount of commercial space leased or convert to a home-based office by using the facility to park work vans, trailers and trucks.
"The commercial vehicles tend to use the outdoor storage, boats commonly use the covered carports, and the high-end motor homes lean toward the enclosed garages," said Kirby, and that information is available on the home page, too.
"What’s neat about the new Web site is that people know all this right away," he said. "They don’t have to ask about security, they know that the facility is surrounded by a 15-foot wall, security cameras operate 24 hours a day, and it’s built to handle hurricanes, all the things that are most important to them."
According to Dan Regelski, director of Florida Gulf Coast University’s Small Business and Development Center, a Web site is an integral part of an overall marketing strategy.
The SBDC provides counseling and resources to help people start or grow their businesses.
"There is no question that a Web site, particularly one that is designed to reach out to a specific market, can make a difference for a business," he said. "Technology has allowed businesses to promote themselves and provide information to customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and we never miss an opportunity to stress the power of the Internet."
For information about Park 720 Vehicle Storage and to check out the new Web site, visit www.Park720.com or call (239) 573-9990.

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 21, 2009 – Mike Coleman, President of the logistics provider explains, “CV International has recently experienced a period of tremendous growth, now servicing customers’ needs in almost every port in the world. Our goal is to provide our customers with a single, integrated one-stop offering, continually adding services as needs arise. We continuously evaluate the factors behind our success, and how can we continue to apply these same factors to be assured of continued growth. One critical element that has enabled us to provide the highest level of world-class service is technology. I believe our relationship with our technology partner IES has been vital in our development.”
“With the recent trend toward increasing regulations, utilization of technology to achieve compliance has become more important than ever. IES has always been well ahead of the curve in regulatory compliance. They were one of the first out the door with user friendly software to facilitate ISF compliance. We were already submitting ISF's for our customers while competitors scrambled to comply.”
“The IES emphasis on streamlined data flow is very helpful to our bottom line. We can re-use data that our overseas agents have already entered, allowing us to increase efficiency while decreasing costs. Anyone who persists in tracking data on spreadsheets will not excel in the long term. When you look at who stays viable, it is those providers who are technologically savvy and who partner with leading technology providers. You simply have to have technology, not just to keep up with the stringent demands in this industry, but to truly stay on top of the game.”

RimTyme Commemorates 'Dog Days Of Summer' With Customer Appreciation Events

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 16, 2009 – PLANO, Texas – Throughout the first half of July, several RimTyme locations celebrated the “dog days of summer” by hosting customer appreciation events.  In the past, to celebrate the summer season, RimTyme corporate-owned stores and franchise locations have hosted parking lot auto shows and other customer-oriented events to exhibit rim brands such as Akita, Mezzano, Mazzi and others.
“On July 3, we had a big cookout with hot dogs, hamburgers and cold drinks for basically anyone in the neighborhood who wanted to stop by,” said Cain Maxwell, store manager for RimTyme’s location in Plano.
All 11 of RimTyme’s corporate-owned stores participated in the customer appreciation day.  The stores also gave customers a chance to win prizes, including a week’s worth of rent and a Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS device.
“Not only did we have a lot of our existing customers stop by the store for lunch, we attracted a lot of potential customers at the same time,” explained Maxwell.  “This was a day to show our customers how much we appreciate their business.  We had a great turnout and it was good to see everybody from around the neighborhood.”
Of course, giving away prizes was a hit.  At all participating locations, many customers made a point to stop by, have lunch, show-off their wheels and enter the drawing for prizes.  For two lucky winners, it paid off: Delia Hernandez, from Plano, won the Garmin Nuvi 350 and Kenneth Twyford, from Oklahoma City, won the free week of rent.
“We’ve never won anything, so it was exciting for us,” said Hernandez.  “We were going to buy a GPS device, but now we don’t.  It has a lot of neat features and I’m excited to use it.”

Speed Humps in the UK have a bigger carbon footprint than the whole of Fiji!

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 06, 2009 – Speed-bump, road hump, speed ramp or sleeping policemen. Let’s face it by any name they are the bane of urban driving (unless of course you make your living selling replacement shock absorbers). They’re a hassle, damage cars and can cause urbanites to drive otherwise unnecessary 4×4s as they’re the only vehicles which shrug them off easily. Yes, average speeds are reduced, but so is your attention of what’s up ahead as you’re trying not to clout your exhaust on that unnecessary piece of road calming. Other complaints made against them are that they slow down emergency services (endangering lives), they are particularly unhealthy for people with back or neck pain and create noise for local residents.
But research by Clear, the carbon offset company, can add another one, that the CO2 impact of Speed Humps in the UK is greater than that of the whole of Fiji. Let us tell you how.
The AA (Automobile Association) did a bit of research on fuel consumption for cars at the Millbrook Proving Ground and found that a typical mid-size car running at a constant 30 mph did 58 mpg. However a car slowing down and speeding up for speed humps only did 31 mpg. Put that into carbon figures1 for a petrol car2 and you get 113 g/km of CO2 at a constant 30mph, or 211 g/km over speed humps. So a kilometer of road with speed humps creates an extra 0.1kg of CO2 for every single car that travels it.
The average road in the UK has 2.46 cars passing per minute throughout the day3, so for argument’s sake, a street typically has 1 car going each way down it every minute during the day and night. In a year, that means a single typical 1km stretch of speed-humped road with 10 speed humps4 creates an extra 103 tonnes of unnecessary CO2 per year or equivalent of taking 32 cars off the road5 .
Taking into account the UK’s estimated 100,0006 speed humps, then that’s a colossal 1.03 million tonnes of CO2 per year. That’s about the same as the total carbon footprint of the 830,000 residents of Fiji7, or almost twice that of Greenland. Ouch. And that doesn’t even consider the motorbikes / trucks and other vehicles that use the UK road network.
Release ends.

Notes for Editors
• Clear, the carbon offset company was the first company in the world to qualify for the UK Government’s Quality Assurance Scheme for Carbon Offsetting. It is the first government backed quality mark for carbon offsets in the world and sets the highest standards yet for the international carbon offsetting industry.  All their carbon offset products meet the criteria for a key aspect of the QAS – accuracy of carbon footprint measurement.  More details can be found on the QAS website at  http://offsetting.defra.gov.uk/
• Clear is an innovative carbon offset company which provides free carbon calculation services for consumers and businesses. Clear’s research aims to show individuals and businesses the real carbon footprints of their actions, and help them to reduce them. It worked closely with the Government on the calculation standards for the QAS.  More information can be found at http://www.clear-offset.com.
• You can consol yourself that as a UK taxpayer, based on the estimate that 50 standard humps 5km of connecting residential streets costs about £150,000. So the UK speed hump population cost us £300 million pounds.
• Footnotes:
1. Clear research / UK Government conversion factors – DEFRA GHG Guidelines. (http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/business/reporting/i ...)

2. A diesel car is slightly worse with 128 v 240 g/km – one litre of petrol produces 2.315kg of CO2, whereas 1 litre of diesel produces 2.630 kg of CO2. (source as 1)

3. 397,403 km / 246,988 miles of road in the UK (Ordnance Survey Mapping, 2006). There are about 32m cars in the UK (DfT 2003), which travel an average of 10,000 miles per annum (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders - http://www.smmt.co.uk/home.cfm ). Therefore an average stretch of road in the UK should have 2.46 cars / minute pass. 1 car per minute on an urban road is not an unreasonable estimate of a typical urban road.

4. Legal requirements that in a 20mph zone, speed humps may be no further than 100m apart. (Camden Council “Speed humps and traffic calming” - http://www.camden.gov.uk/ccm/content/transport-and-streets/traffic-management/speed-humps-and-traffic-calming.en .

5. DEFRA GHG Guidelines - Annex 6 - Passenger Transport Conversion Tables (as before). Unknown car 204.2g/km. Average mileage per annum in the UK – 10,000 from SMMT road transport assumptions (as before). Average unknown car produces 3.219 tonnes of CO2 per annum.

Independent pre-move surveys in Germany and Europe

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 04, 2009 – The world wide financial crises has affected the Moving Industry too. The number of world wide Moves decreases constantly and stronger competition for customers is taking place. Usually, when a cutomer orders a move a pre-move survey is done in order to deterimine the volume that needs to be shipped. Until now, moving companies had to ask local moving companies to do a pre-move survey whenever the customer was not living near an office of the own moving company. But stronger competition increases the fear of competing moving companies hooking the customers. Furthermore, more and more moving companies have to reduce their costs in order to withstand the financial crisis.
One solution to these usual problems of moving companies is the service of the company Consulting and Service "Christian Papenmeier -- Beratung & Service" with H.Q. in Frankfurt, Germany and offices near Chemnitz (Saxony) and Prague (Czech Republic). They offer independent pre-move surveys in Europe, especially Germany and Frankfurt Area. They are independent and act in the name of the ordering moving company. Therefore moving companies do not fear that their customers are hooked any more.
Furthermore, moving companies may use the service of Christian Papenmeier's company on a pay per pre-move survey basis using PayPal. So they might drastically cut their usual pre-move survey costs.
The result of a pre-move survey is a moving report including the number and volume of furniture to be moved and special characteristics of the loading location like single-track roads. Using the independet service of Christian Papenmeier these results are send 24 h after the survey via e-mail.
To make it easier for partners to contact them they have an international Webpage based in Unites States, too:

Luna Road’s solar road studs and solar cat eyes illuminate Costa Rica

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 02, 2009 – Luna Road, a company that specializes in the design, manufacture, supply and installation of the new high-tech solar powered road studs, illuminates the dangerous road leading up to the infamous Tunnel Zurqui in Costa Rica.
The Tunnel Zurqui, also known as “The Tunnel of Death” is one of the most dangerous roads in the entire country of Costa Rica. Many drivers frequently get into serious and fatal accidents on this winding, narrow and dark mountainous road.
Luna Road, in conjunction with the road authorities in Costa Rica, have installed Luna Road Lights on the dangerous roads and curves leading up to the treacherous Tunnel Zurqui in a bid to help increase road safety, and help reduce the number of road accidents and fatalities at this particular death trap.
The LR-200 Luna Road Light Series was the major model used on this particular project. Each LR-200 Luna Road Light Series was installed in the foundation of the road, creating a flushed finish effect.
Feedback from the Luna Road Light project at the Tunnel Zurqui has been extremely positive and successful so far. Many drivers who now approach this dangerous road at night are tremendously satisfied with the distance visibility delivered by the Luna Road Lights, which helps to alert and warn the drivers of the oncoming dangers that exist on the road ahead; helping to guide and protect the drivers safely along their way.
Luna Road will continue to work extremely hard with the authorities in deploying the Eco Friendly Luna Road Light Safety System, to help reduce the high number of human fatalities that stem from the growing global road vehicular accident epidemic.

Luna Road LLC. specializes in the design, manufacture, supply and installation of the new high-tech “cat’s eyes”.
Unlike conventional retro-reflective road markers, Luna Road Lights contain Light Emitting Diodes, which illuminate the direction of the road, for miles in front of drivers.
Luna Road Lights removes the need for car headlights to reflect on conventional road markers in order to provide illumination.
